Having to be the best and failing

I had a dream that seemed more like a calling. It took place in a conference room with several people sitting around an oval table and an older man was sitting at the head of the table. He was telling us a story about how he was so close to getting the heisman trophy from playing football back in his college days.

The game was going so perfect for him he was so sure he had an excellent opportunity to be awarded this grand trophy. Although the game was neck and neck with the other team ahead, it all led to the final play of the game and this man was asked to be open to receive the football at the endzone to score the game winning touchdown.

As with any other play he ran his route and placed himself wide open. As the football was thrown to him, he touched the football with one of his two hands, fumbled it, lost possession of it and the game was over.

Since then the old man could not get over the fact that the Heisman Trophy was given to someone else. He did everything right playing the sport his whole life up to that point. Not only did he lose a major game and let his teammates down, he also happened to be stuck in a moment in time about this life changing play of the game that caused his demise.

A voice came from someone sitting among the table and he had to say "You are called to save the lives and souls of others".

Then I woke up. I did a google search to see if there was some famous quote or proverb that happened to place these sayings in writing. I found statements scratching the surface of either of the two but no connection between the two. So in my mind this is a calling.

What I learned is the following:

"If you are not able to get over something that happened, you are called to save the lives and souls of others."

Why?

"If everyone had the additude of not saving the lives and souls of others, humanity would be lost."

Please feel free to add to my thoughts.
